Asbury Hills

Did a hike at Asbury Hills camp.  I had never been here before.  On one of the trails we had to go around a lot of blowdowns so there was some bushwhacking involved.  The main trials were pretty clear but this one was not a marked trail.  You have to call ahead and get a code to get into the gate at the camp.  There is plenty of parking and bathrooms in the dinning hall.  We did about 5.6 M with 851 EG.

DuPont State Forest

Did a variety of trails at DuPont.  Started out at the visitor center and went to the covered bridge, Bridal Veil Falls, High Falls, and Triple Falls.  Did some walking on gravel roads for some of the hike.  Some trails are still closed for Helene damage.  We did 6.5 M and 444 EG.

Cumberland Gap - Tri-State Peak

Hiked the tri-state peak trail.  You start at the Thomas Walker Parking Area.  The trail is 1.2 M to the top.  It's a steady uphill to the top where you can stand in Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee.  The entire hike was 2.4 M with 503 EG.

Cumberland Gap - Pinnacle Overlook

This isn't a hike but just an overlook you drive to and walk about 600ft to the view.  According to the kiosk you can see the Tru-State Peak (Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee) but there is not a marker or anything.

Cumberland Gap - Ewing Trail to Sand Cave and White Rocks Overlook

This was a really good hike to a sand cave which is a football field size cave filled with sand and the White Rocks Overlook which has a great views.  You start at The Thomas Walker Civic Park which has bathrooms and a picnic shelter.  It is a steady climb for a while.  There are some root balls to go through since the storm.  You can tell a lot of cleanup has been done.  I've never seen anything like the cave before.  An interesting feature on the hike. This was a 9 M with 2024 EG hike.
